4-H Polish Connections

Ways to Help Build Polish 4-H Connections

It feels good to help other people. But it feels even better to help people who are eagerly multiplying the benefit of your efforts with efforts oftheir own. That's teamwork. And teamwork is precisely what is happening in the relationship between Michigan and Poland through their respective 4-H foundations.

To be successful in Poland over the long term, however, 4-H programs there cannot be Michigan transplants. They must be nurtured and made hardy for the culture and character of Poland and its people.

Individuals and organizations can lend a helping hand, through the Michigan 4-H Foundation, in several areas:

  • Families can serve as Michigan/Poland 4-H Exchange program hosts or chaperones.
  • Young people can serve as pen pals to Polish youth.
  • Educators and business professionals can share expertise and serve as technical advisors to strengthen Polish youth development opportunities and programs.

Individuals and organizations are encouraged to donate to the Michigan
4-H Foundation to advance its partnership with the Polish 4-H Foundation.

The Michigan 4-H Foundation will use charitable contributions and grants designated to support:

  • Training 4-H volunteers in Poland.
  • Sponsoring youth meetings and special events.
  • Providing seed money to new local 4-H projects in Poland that connect with Michigan 4-H members.
  • Providing 4-H club support tools in Poland such as 4-H banners, flags and lapel pins.
  • Sponsoring 20 Michigan 4-H club members and three chaperones who will travel to Poland as exchange visitors with Polish families. (An estimated $7,500 would support one-third of the cost of air travel. Polish families absorb the living expenses of their guests.) These exchanges happen bi-annually. Polish youth and adults visit Michigan in non-Michigan travel years, resulting in an annual exchange between countries.
  • Underwrite the costs to produce written and audiovisual materials to present 4-H and its curriculum in dynamic and relevant ways to Poland's young people. (Estimated needs would cost $20,000 for one program year.)

To support 4-H programs in Poland, the Michigan 4-H Foundation offers a variety of ways to make a gift and benefits to contributing members.
