Michigan 4-H Endowments
Making a Long-Term Investment in 4-H Youth
About Endowments
The Michigan 4-H Foundation offers donors gift options designed to sustain Michigan 4-H Youth Development programs at both county and state levels. Endowments for 4-H county or state programs provide a dependable and perpetual source of funding that, when combined with other public and private annual 4-H funding sources, assures that 4-H learning opportunities can always be available for Michigan’s young people.

significantly with the addition of a planned or estate gift.
• All endowments are created through agreements negotiated with the
donor.
• All endowments are managed according to the guidelines set by the
Michigan 4-H Foundation’s revenue and spending policy.
• All named endowed funds are permanently recognized in the foundation’s
annual report.
• Endowment gifts exceeding $25,000 can qualify a donor for permanent
recognition at Kettunen Center, the Michigan 4-H Foundation’s volunteer
leadership development facility.
Named State 4-H Program Endowments
Donors with a particular interest in long-term 4-H program priority areas such as animal science; plant science; environmental science; health education; citizenship, leadership and service; global and cultural education or other 4-H programs can establish a program endowment that would provide perpetual support for specific program development and implementation. State 4-H program endowments can be used to provide annual grants to support county programming; statewide programming; volunteer development and/or curriculum development.
Named County 4-H Program Endowments
Donors who want to make a sustained investment in the county 4-H program where they were a 4-H member or volunteer, can do so with the creation of a named county endowment fund. The Michigan 4-H Foundation annually grants proceeds from county endowed funds to a county 4-H program to support 4-H youth participant fee scholarships; youth out-of-county event scholarships, 4-H youth recognition; 4-H volunteer training scholarships or simply to assist with the annual cost of program delivery in a county.
Named 4-H Facility Endowments
Donors can make an investment that helps keep Kettunen Center or the Michigan 4-H Children’s Gardens in premium shape for Michigan 4-H Youth Development programming. Kettunen Center is the foundation’s volunteer training facility in Tustin, Michigan. Endowed support for the center helps maintain the grounds, wetlands and facilities that have made Kettunen Center the natural place for Michigan 4 H Youth Development programming. Endowments that support the Michigan 4-H Children’s Gardens ensure annual and long-term garden renewal and design and help keep the garden’s play and learning structures well-maintained for visitors’ enjoyment each year.

The Michigan 4-H Legacy Fund was created to recognize the credibility achieved by 4-H during its first 100 years. Its goal is to continue to encourage and shape innovation in Michigan 4-H Youth Development programming that helps foster the positive development of young people well into the future. The fund was founded with investments by current and retired 4-H program staff and by members of the Michigan 4-H Foundation board of trustees. Annual grants from the fund currently support innovative 4-H programming at the county level. The goal is to grow this fund to $1.5 million to foster innovation in 4-H program development.
Michigan 4-H Founder’s Fund
The Michigan 4-H Founder’s Fund was established with a major gift from a long-time trustee of the Michigan 4-H Foundation. Our goal for The Founder’s Fund is to seek current gifts and major and documented planned gift commitments over the next seven years that combined will result in the foundation having a $5 million interest-earning reserve fund capable of generating ongoing and perpetual support for the operations of 4-H and the Michigan 4-H Foundation.
The Michigan 4-H Foundation, a public foundation headquartered in East Lansing, Michigan, USA, receives charitable contributions and special grants for the development and support of 4-H youth programs in Michigan.
