High School Principal
Sally Ann Narhi is accredited with 31 years of service for Michigan’s public schools prior to retiring in 1998. Most recently she was a high school principal for 11 years at L’Anse Area Schools and six years prior at Baraga Area Schools. Previously she held positions as a professional development chairperson and as director of special needs. Narhi also developed a model for vocational education administration. She received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctor of philosophy degrees from Michigan State University. Narhi is a charter
member of the Alston VFW, currently serving as vice president. She is
also president of the Copper Country Farm Bureau and serves as secretary
for the International Four-H Youth Exchange (IFYE) national board. Narhi
has been very active in the IFYE and other international programs throughout
her life. She was an IFYE to Taiwan and her family hosted IFYEs from Norway,
Taiwan and Finland as well as a LABO student from Japan. Additionally,
she has served on several IFYE national conference planning committees,
presented at the 1998 IFYE World Conference and was a 2003 delegate to
the IFYE World Conference. Narhi is also very active in her local community
volunteering for the Ontonagon County Habitat for Humanity, Baraga County
Resource Council, the Hanka Homestead Museum, Alston Apostolic Lutheran
Church, the Western U.P. Livestock Association, Baraga County Fair and
the River Riders 4-H Livestock Club. She received the honors of 1998 U.P.
High School Principal of the Year, 1997 Delta Kappa Gamma Chi Chapter
Woman of the Year and the 1985 4-H Alumni Award.
