Clerk Emeritus, Berrien County “[Through 4-H] I learned how to do things right, how to work with people and to accept each person for who they are, not who you want them to be.” Carol Stockman has given her life to volunteering since retiring as the Berrien County treasurer in 1996. She is a past president and treasurer of the Berrien County United Way, a former chair of the Berrien County Republican Woman’s Club, a member of the Berrien County Republican Executive Committee, a chairwoman of the Lakeshore Excellence Foundation board, a coordinator of Mothers of Pre-schoolers (MOPS) and a chair of an annual golf outing in memory of her husband that supports the Benton Harbor Street Ministry. In 1995,
Stockman received the Margaret B. Upton Volunteer Leadership Award. She
was recognized as a Women of Achievement nominee through the Executive
and Professional Women Association in 2000. Stockman was an Engler appointee
to the Michigan Higher Education Facilities Authority. She raised funds
to purchase and renovate a building for the MOPS and to renovate the Lakeshore
High School football facility. Her five children were all 4-H members
and she was a 4-H organizational leader for 15 years.
