Gary L. SeeversGary L. Seevers, Hillsdale County 4-H'er

Agriculture Economist,
Goldman Sachs & Co.

“My 4-H work led to my first visit to campus during 4-H Week and tomany more thereafter. It gave me motivation to attend MSU [and] confidence to take risks and the desire to excel which resulted in a successful college experience with numerous honors upon graduation.”

Gary L. Seevers has led the futures brokerage business for Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York and abroad since joining the firm in 1979 as head of commodities marketing. He became co-head of the futures department in 1982 and was named a general partner in 1986. He headed the fixed income section of the Goldman Sachs Tokyo office and returned to New York in 1990 to become general partner with worldwide futures brokerage responsibilities. A noted agriculture economist, Seevers served President Ford as commissioner and acting chairman for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and as a member, spokesman and special assistant to the chairman for President Nixon’s Council of Economic Advisors.

Seevers is a benefactor to several organizations, including the New York Metropolitan Opera, New York Hospital, United Way, the Michigan 4-H Foundation and the MSU Development Fund. He is an active supporter of the American Agricultural Economists Foundation and a noted distinguished alumni of both the MSU College of Agriculture and Michigan 4-H Youth Development. Before beginning his career as an agriculture economist, he served as a 4-H youth agent in Ingham and Lenawee Counties.
