Patricia MurphyPatricia Murphy, Calhoun County 4-H'er

Co-owner, Irish Hills Farms

“Responsibility and leadership are two of the big things you learn in 4-H. I think it’s vitally important that kids have leadership for making decisions.”

Patricia Murphy is co-owner and operator of Irish Hills Farms in Olivet, a 1000-acre farm and farrow-to-finish hog operation. She is a long-time supporter of youth and agricultural development in Michigan. She was former president of the Michigan Cattlewomen’s Association and served on the Beef Industry Commission. She is currently a member of the Michigan Cattlemen’s Association board of directors. For the past seven years, she has led Michigan Agricultural Tour Groups, providing opportunities for interested people to visit farm and agricultural operations throughout the United States.

Murphy has been a 4-H youth leader for more than 45 years, often having as many as 123 members in her club. She has been recognized by Governor Engler for her participation in the Michigan State Fair and has received recognition for her service to 4-H and the Eaton County Fair with the Friends of 4-H Award. She is an annual supporter of the Eaton County Livestock Sale and of the FFA and the American Cancer Society.
