Harry Michael Chaddock was the chief animal health official for the Michigan Department of Agriculture from 1986 to 2001. During that period, he collaborated with other Michigan animal industry leaders to reorganize the animal health program. Before becoming the state veterinarian, Chaddock was owner of the Shawnee Hills Veterinary Hospital in Baroda and an active member and president of the Baroda Business Association. In 2001 he became a U.S. Congressional Fellow in Washington, D.C., as part of the American Association for the Advancement of Science Congressional Fellowship Program. On Oct. 1, 2002, he will join the Center for Civilian Bio-Defense Strategy at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Currently, Chaddock is the director of communications for the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges in Washington, D.C.

Chaddock is a member of both the MVMA and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and serves as an adjunct faculty member for the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He received both the MDA Directors Commendation for Outstanding Performance and the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine Partnership Award in 1998. The Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA) honored him in 1990 with an Award of Appreciation and again in 2000 with the Public Service Award. In 2004 he received the AVMA's Russell H. Anthony Award. He is also an active member of the U.S. Animal Health Association.
