COVER STORY:
4-H Science Blasts connect youth statewide
In 2010, only 56 percent of Michigan high school graduates were considered proficient in science at graduation. In 2009, Michigan ranked sixth in the nation in total scientific and engineering jobs and the Michigan unemployment rate for people with a high school diploma was 17.9 percent compared with 6 percent for those with a bachelor’s degree.*
Michigan 4-H seeks to improve those statistics by implementing a science focus at all 4-H workshops, hosting Science Blast events and developing a science learning handbook.
